dreaming in the shadows of the Sleeping Maiden

Mt. Tamalpais, October 14, 2012

Mt. Tam glimpsed at the time the morning fog lifted and the sun hit the slopes and the world around it

Middle of October. Not summer, not fall … a lull between seasons. Usually my favorite time of year, because even as the light keeps shrinking, so much of the hidden reflections in this world and that of the imagination seem to come into sharper relief. Poised between light and dark, between the bounty that summer brought and the anticipation of scarcities of winter there opens to us a vast territory where sorrow, happiness, yearning, and all the other rocky emotional ranges that cast those formidable shadows over the meadows of our lives show themselves for what they really are: currents of fog, swirling and folding unto themselves.
